Ban Ki-moon's Siding for the Sahrawis Makes Morocco Loses Mind
Moroccan government expressed its “protest” over the statements of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, on the issue of Western Sahara, as he acknowledged that the solution to the crisis that last almost four decades, is self-determination, the opposite of what Morocco is trying to impose on the Sahrawis and the international community, through the proposal of “Autonomy”.
Moroccan government said in a communication, on Wednesday, that it recorded with a great amazement, “Verbal glides and imposing a fait accompli and unexplained nepotism of the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, during his recent visit to the region”.
It expressed “strong protest over the UN Secretary General’s statements on the Western Sahara issue, registering that these statements are not politically astute, and are unprecedented in the history of his ancestors, and contrary to the resolutions of the Security Council, as they are offensive and affect the feelings of the Moroccan people as a whole “.
Moroccan overload emotional reaction towards Ban Ki-moon, reflects the extent of the shock that hit the Moroccan regime, as it appeared lonely and obstinate in the attachment to its colonial thought for the occupation of Sahrawis.
Ban Ki-moon visited, last Saturday, the Sahrawi refugee camps and met with refugees, where he confirmed that he will spare no effort to help achieve progress towards a solution to the Sahara issue.
Official spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric, said on Monday; “Goal of the Secretary-General through visiting the region, is to assess the situation and contribute to the search for a settlement to the Sahara issue .. Ban Ki-moon was effected with what he saw and feels guilty because he did not move before then, expressing concern about the security situation and the increased criminal activities and drug trafficking, and the prospect of the arrival of extremists and terrorists to the region, but did not notice any infiltration of terrorist elements into the camps.”
