Algerian finance minister Hadji Baba Ami gave an instruction to banks to stop asking account holders about the source of their money. This comes as discount lump is applied to any deposited sum which exceeds fixed values.

Two weeks after his appointment as finance minister, Hadji Baba Ami preferred to launch a program to boost a procedure set by the government to attract informal market money. He showed dissatisfaction over bureaucracy in banks and ordered not to ask account holders about the source of their money.

This comes as the minister tries to save the procedure from failure as banks held it responsible for failing in achieving planned objectives.

The procedure was supposed to facilitate the settlement of fiscal situation of account holders.

Echorouk has learnt that the new minister seems to be excited about making the procedure successful although it represents a strong support to attract tax evaders.
