The Minister of the Interior and Local Assemblies, Noureddine Bedoui, declared that “Algeria is not in crisis,” while calling on elected officials to alter their lingering image of “incompetent officials” bestowed on them by the citizens.

Indeed, the Minister while on an inspection visit on Thursday to the wilaya or province of Mostaganem (Western Algeria) stated: “There are those who assert we don’t have money to pay salaries of municipal employees, which is wrong and the obvious purpose of these mendacious allegations is to disparage the actions of the Algerian Government and to influence public opinion.

In addition, he spoke to local officials with optimistic tone about the big potential of the Algerian society stressing that the country is ready to create wealth and determined to live up to the challenges of edification and investment so as to preserve its economic independence from the its strengths and resources, which it possesses in all areas, such as tourism, agriculture and other sectors of activity.

Mr Noureddine Bedoui also called on local officials not to rely on state aid while underlining that the local authorities are now required to play a much more active role in national development, by being genuine  driving forces locally, in line with the country’s newly-adopted economic strategy.

The Interior minister added that the Algerian people have faced up valiantly to the challenge of the terrorism scourge and the restoration of security and stability in recent years will allow the country to meet successfully the ongoing economic challenges.

Mr Bedoui further pointed to the need of “inventing new forms of management” on the part of the local assemblies via the adoption facilitation measures for the benefit of potential investors in order to foster a dynamic public development and attract dormant funds by injecting them into the country’s economic machine through a steady flow of investments.
