Belgian Embassy in Algeria grants 6,000 visas for Algerians annually, i.e. a rate that exceeds 75%, while it decided to shorten the duration of studying the files and respond to the requests for visas to less than 10 days.

In this context, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Algeria, Frederick Morris, said that there have been no changes to the policy of granting visas to Algerian nationals.

“Generally among four Algerian requests, three of them are granted visas, and this as soon as possible, and the acceptance rate is 75%. Over 6,000 visas to enter Belgium are granted for Algerian nationals annually More than 30.000 Algerians live in Belgium”.

Frederick Morris explained, on the sidelines of a study day, that was held at the centre for research in the social and cultural anthropology about the political participation of women that are locally elected, that “There are no changes in the visa policy”, since the terrorist attack of March, 22, which targeted Brussels Airport – Zaventem, where 35 people died and 136 others were injured.

Regarding the economic relationships between the two countries, Mr. Morris described them as “important” because a significant number of Belgian companies operate in Algeria or work in partnership with Algerian partners in different fields like food industry, pharmaceutical industry, transport and other fields.

With regard to the food industry, particularly with regard to milk powder and feeding cattle, the Belgian diplomat asserted that the two countries are currently working on the development and production units in Algeria.

As for the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries, he said; “Belgium usually exports more than 1 billion euros to Algeria, and Algeria exported, before the collapse of the oil price, between 1.5 and 2 billion euros to Belgium.”
