Candidate Ali Benflis committed to formalize Tamazight language if he is elected as president. “I promise you to take an official position towards Tamazight is I am elected and I will open a debate in the issue,” he said Thursday in a rally in the province of Bejaia.

“Algeria without official Tamazight is not complete. As a politician, I am aware about conspiracies. Yet, I am going to achieve the goal,” he added.

Benflis also said “empire and dictatorship era” is over and it is replaced by the era of freedom and democracy’s Algeria.

Earlier in 2004, Benflis run for office in the presidential elections.

He said he is ready to approve a “consensus constitution.”

“If I am elected as president, I will have no accounts to settle. There will be free justice and press.”

He also said public money should be under surveillance by people and independent institutions.

Speaking about president Bouteflika’s candidacy for a fourth term, he said that is illogical after 15 years in power. “I will work on changing the situation with people.”
