Benflis to create opposition political party

Ali Benflis called for establishing a large « national rally » organized and peaceful as part of a « gradual » peaceful movement, saying he will create an “opposition” political party.

Benflis rejected the presidential elections result as he came second following the president candidate who won 81 percent of votes.

“I learnt many political lessons from elections. Of them, the lesson that there were no elections. The administration distributed votes on candidates,” he said.

He added that if the elections were conducted in a correct and sincere way, he would accept the results and respect the popular will respectfully.

“The results were prepared via fraud. Power was repressively used. This truth can not be hidden forever,” he said.

Speaking about fraud, Benflis said it has been prepared for a long time through the last government reshuffle, then the announcement of the president’s candidacy.

He also said the fraud tarnished legitimacy and the first beneficiary does not have the capacity of bearing national big responsibilities.

He believes that the political regime led the country to a blockage state and the solution needs a change and a democratic organized and peaceful alternative.
