Algeria’s former finance minister Abderrahmane Benkhalfa refused to make any comment about his dimissal as President Abdelaziz Bouteflika partially reshuffled his cabinet.

“I was at the head of an important and sensitive sector. Today, I can’t make any comment about the President’s decision. Days will show what I did. I just said the truth,” he told Echorouk on Sunday on the phone.

“I am leaving with the conviction that I did my job. I have always presented indicators about the financial situation in the country and called for vigilance,” he added.

The newly-appointed finance minister Baba Ami hailed efforts made by Benkhalfa, saying his played a great role in the modernization of the finance sector.

“The finance ministry has to play a major role in the new economic project which was approved by a tripartite meeting last week. The banking sector should play a pivotal role in this regard,” he added.
