Benoît Hamon: I am ready to apologize to Algeria

French Socialist presidential candidate Benoît Hamon Sunday said it is a possible to “apologize” to Algerians for the colonization crimes if he succeeds François Hollande.

Hamon told French media that his country should say sorry to Algeria’s Tunisia and Morocco’s people. “Yet, it seems to me that we should face history.”

He criticized Emmanuel Macron for terming France’s colonization of Algeria a “crime against humanity.” 

“That means French can appear in the International Criminal Court for committing crimes against humanity,” he said.

“We will raise the level of this calamity to crimes against Jews and genocide in Rwanda and Armenia. I do not want to be involved in the issue of memories competition. This issue is serious and heavy,” he added.
