Bernard Bajolet, former boss of the French Foreign Intelligence and former French ambassador to Algeria, revealed that Saïd Bouteflika, brother and former adviser to the deposed Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, “was called Mr. 15%”, referring to the retro-commissions he allegedly received in return for favors granted to certain Algerian oligarchs.
The former French ambassador to Algiers said that the Bouteflika brothers were indeed involved in corruption cases. Thus, Saïd Bouteflika, currently incarcerated in Blida military prison, “was called Monsieur 15%”, according to Bernard Bajolet, who spoke in a documentary broadcast by the Franco-German channel Arte entitled “Algeria: l’aube des promesses” (or “Algeria: the dawn of promises”).
The former boss of the French Foreign Intelligence Service accused Said Bouteflika of having received large retro-commissions on public contracts unduly granted to oligarchs currently in prison. Nevertheless, Bernard Bajolet did not reveal any more information about these accusations, even if he gives the impression that he is very aware of what he is saying.
Said Bouteflika, brother and advisor to former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, was arrested on Saturday, May 4, by the security services along with former heads of intelligence services, General Toufik and General Tartag. The three men are accused of “violating the authority of the ANP army” and “conspiring against the authority of the State”.
As a reminder, the former French ambassador to Algeria had strongly criticized the Algerian government and Head of State Abdelaziz Bouteflika. In an interview with Le Figaro Newspaper last September, he stated that former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika “was being kept artificially alive”.
In spite of the myriad services provided by Bouteflika and his entourage to the former colony, this French official did not bother to warmly meet with those who served his country before hypocritically castigating them later on.
