Bernard Émié: “Relationship Between Algeria and France Is Emotional, Exciting”

Relationship between France and Algeria applies perfectly the proverb: “Politics are born from the meeting of memory with the desire”, French ambassador to Algiers, Bernard Émié said.

“Relationship between the two countries is emotional and interesting because there is a strong correlation between Paris and Algiers on the historical, political and economic levels”.

French diplomat wrote, in the editorial of “Binatna” magazine, a newsletter to the French Embassy to Algeria; “Politics generates from the meeting of memory with desire, it is never trite and inevitably emotional and exciting, relationship between France and Algeria gives this proverbe a special dimension” .

“Relationship between France and Algeria becomes perfect, thanks to a common desire to look forward to evoke the tragedies of the past, and it gives good results”.

Émié gave an exemple for what he considers the strength of the relationship between his country and Algeria; “How can we avoid talking about the victims of the attacks in 2015, the weekly Charlie Hebdo, attacks of Wednesday, January 7, and Bataclan attacks, and in several Parisian neighbourhoods, in that tragic day, Friday, November 13, it is said a friend indeed is a friend in need, and Algeria was at the time cooperating and friendly, and its indispensable experience in the fight against the phenomenon of terrorism constitutes a new kind of cooperation between our two countries”.

French ambassador also returned to the memory file, and wrote: “Memory of the Great War soldiers was celebrated in Constantine on November 11, 2015, and in Verdun on May 29, 2016, in order to remember and to look together towards the future, and finally memory finds peace after the first visit of its kind since independence, of the the Algerian Minister of Mujahideen (war veterans) to France, in the end of January 2016”.

Second desire, as it is called by the ambassador Bernard Émié is developing the relationship between the two countries, both in the political and economic sides; “Second desire, is the desire to achieve greater achievements always, to embody the Algiers Declaration on Friendship and Cooperation, that was signed by the two countries’ Presidents nearly four years ago, in order to open a new and wide chapter in our relationships”.

“Doubling the number of ministerial visits, which reached at least 19 visits to Algeria between September 2015 and June 2016, and 14 visits to Paris in the same period, is economically characterized by the signing of 31 agreements during the high-level Inter-Governmental Committee. Economic Partnership has tangible and real results”.
