Blasphemous cartoon: “Chip Bok's regrets and apologies to the Muslims”

US Cartoonist Chip Bok put forth in the first place the argument of the unbridled free expression in the United States as a reason for the drawing up of a cartoon without first delving into the lofty personality of the Prophet of Islam Mohamed (God's peace and blessings be upon him). 

• He seized the opportunity of an encounter in his office with Echorouk’s correspondent in the USA to express his regrets and apologies to the Muslims worldwide.

• The cartoonist acknowledged that he had made a gross mistake and that he did not intend to deal a blow to Islam and to the Muslims.

• Chip Bok, who works for the “Akron Beacon” newspaper based in Cleveland in the State of Ohio, emphasized that his main goal was to attack CNN but things went awry afterwards.

• “I should have got informed about the personality of the Prophet of Islam before embarking upon any critical cartoon”, he admitted.

• The cartoonist said that he had learnt a lot from this unfortunate mishap.

• Chip Bok also indicated that he fully respected the deep anger of the Muslims and their legitimate reaction because they only defended their sacred religion in the face of his blunder, as he put it.
