Borders security and weapons smuggling raise emergency at “Arab Maghreb Union”
Libya, Algeria and Tunisia’s prime ministers are expected to meet in Ghadames in Libya on Saturday to examine borders security, the fight against smuggling, terrorist threats, security in the Sahel and the Sahara region and the situation in northern Mali-related issues.
According to Algerian prime minister’s department, Algeria will hold talks with Libyan prime minister Ali Zidane about security situation on borders between Algeria, Libya and Tunisia.
This comes as terror training centers were discovered in Tunisia and quantities of European weapons which were with Libyan revolutionaries reached terrorists in Algeria.
Efforts are made by Algeria to avoid US-French military intervention in northern Mali under the cover of the UN Security Council in the pretext of fighting terrorist groups. Central government in Bamako reiterated its request to the French government for a military intervention to stop terrorist threats in southern Mali.
Algeria, Libya and Tunisia’s interior ministers, senior security officials and officials in charge of border areas development will attend the Summit.
Earlier, Libyan prime minister committed to support defense and interior ministries to ensure the safety of Libya’s borders and keep watch on weapons, ammunition and drugs smuggling movement in southern areas.
Few days ago, Algerian interior minister Dahou Ould Kablia visited Tunisia to coordinate security efforts and examine the situation on borders.
Libyan interior minister Achour Shouail examined with his Tunisian counterpart Ali Aaridh security situation on borders ahead of Saturday’s Summit.
