Bougherra rejects Rangers extension amid Arsenal and Liverpool interest
Bougherra wants to move down to the Premier League
Algeria international Madjid Bougherra said he has rejected an offer to extend his contract with Glasgow Rangers.
- Scottish “Daily Record” has quoted Bougherra as saying that “Rangers offered me a chance to extend my contract by another two years – but I politely refused.”
- In fact the Algeria ace vowed to leave Ibrox as by next summer to the Premier League. “’I have spent three wonderful years here in Glasgow and I want to try a new challenge,” the centre back said, adding: “My priority is to play in the Premier League, for sure. Now if it does not happen, I shall go and play in either Turkey or the Gulf countries. But for now, I’m still at Rangers and we still have a lot to play for this season. I’ve not left Rangers yet.”
- “I have one year left of my contract with Rangers and everything depends on discussions I have with the people in charge of the club.”
- Yet, several English clubs were linked with Bougherra move in last January transfer window, including Liverpool, Arsenal and New Castle.
- Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and his Liverpool counterpart Kenny Dalglish are both reportedly interested in signing the experienced centre half, who has 47 caps with Algeria.
- Bougherra would be a good replacement to the unconvincing Sebastien Squillaci and Laurent Koscielny in Arsenal’s defence. However, Liverpool are looking for reinforcing the back line with an experienced and physically strong player, and Bougherra fits the Anfield requirements.
