Former MSP Islamist party leader, Aboudjerra Soltani, has firmly denied reports relayed by some Algerian media outlets that he’s intent on running for the forthcoming presidential polls set for April 17th 2014 in Algeria.

Aboudjerra Soltani issued a communiqué on Tuesday strongly refuting such a contingency saying that he won’t stand as candidate for next April’s presidential elections.

He said such persisting rumours about his so-called election – bid were totally groundless.

In his press release addressed to the public opinion of which Echorouk got a copy, Aboudjerra Soltani pointed out that “Algeria is more important than the presidential polls or the President himself”.

“I won’t deviate from the principles and decisions pursued to this effect by the MSP leadership and Shoura (Consultative) Council, Aboudjerra Soltani underlined.

He added that the main concern for the national public opinion was to retrieve its strength in order to be able to reply to the looming question related to the aftermath of the crucial date of April 17th 2014.

Aboudjerra Soltani also affirmed that his discussions and encounters with other political figures were mainly aimed at examining how best to thrash out solutions to the manifold political and socio-economic woes now besetting the country.
