Bouteflika to take an oath next week
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will take the oath of office next week at the Palais des Nations after the Constitutional Council examines the 97 pleas submitted by the five candidates, Echorouk has learnt.
The President’s Office fixed Monday to take the oath while the final date depends on the Constitutional Council as the law determines 10 days for a specialized commission to examine the pleas.
According to Article 75 of the Constitution, the President of the Republic should take an oath in the first week following his election.
The event will take place in presence of all the senior executives including members of the Constitutional Council, the Higher Court and the State’s Council and Parliament. It will broadcast on live on public TV channel.
Observers believe that Bouteflika’s appearance on a wheelchair on the voting day put an end to many voices which raised questions about his capacity of taking an oath.
