Bouteflika will announce candidacy and talk about his illness
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika is expected to announce in the next few hours that he would run for office in the presidential elections due to be held in April, Echorouk has learnt.
Bouteflika’s speech will be recorded in a tape and will last for few minutes. This comes as the President’s Office had issued a release about the president’s candidacy while people did not hear that from him in person.
According to the same sources, Bouteflika will talk about his health state admitting that he has suffered from problems for years. His speech will also talk about his personal achievements since the liberation war.
Bouteflika will thank Algerian people for electing him for three times successively and will remind about the National Reconciliation which restored tranquility in Algeria.
The president’s short message will justify reasons behind his decision to run for office. He will say that civil society and parties are asking him for a fourth term. He will try to confirm guarantees he gave to ensure the transparency of the elections.
He will also talk about his achievements in previous mandates and will praise people who trusted him. He will say that people’s call on him pushed him to run for office.
