Brand-New Electronic System Meant To Rid Algiers Of Overcrowding And Traffic Jams

The Director of embellishment and renovation of the province of Algiers Mohamed Machouq, dwelt in a statement to “Echorouk” on the adoption by the relevant authorities of new measures for completely eliminating the problem of overcrowding of vehicles in the capital Algiers, by adopting very sophisticated mechanisms notably through appropriate traffic lights, placed on roads where there is a dense concentration of road-users.

He said that these systems will be used in places usually affected by traffic jams or cramped traffic, especially in roads linking to the side and main streets, where modern systems based on the most advanced technologies will provide for electronically systems distributing properly the traffic lights according to the size of congestion through sensors and cameras as part of efforts to get rid of the lingering and mind-boggling traffic jams in most parts of the capital Algiers and its suburbs.

Mr Machouq further explained that this embellishment and modernization plan launched by the state will involve  with public institutions and properties, as well as the creation of green spaces, the paving of roads, the repair of public lighting, the planting of trees, in addition to the cleansing of drainage channels across the capital Algiers in order to enhance its brand-image as an attractive and modern Mediterranean city open onto the world,

This strategic plan will also extend  the Bay of Algiers which will be enshrined as a Mediterranean and even a world city over a length of more than 650 hectares in addition to the fitting out of an area of nearly 300 hectares meant for tourism investment and 500 hectares for economic investment.

According to the same official, this plan is not only destined to the restoration of the capital, but is part of an overall strategy of sustainable and inclusive development, focusing on the partnership between the public and private sectors for the creation of competitive economic areas.
