Cabinet to endorse exceptional measures in order to face scarcity and regulate prices
Finance ministry’s services have fixed the list of seeds that won’t be taxed by the customs services at their entry to Algerian soil including potato in a move to encourage the importers to acquire these seeds, which count among the basic food commodities, and face shortage as well as control prices on the market.

Reliable sources revealed to “Echourok” that draft bill concerning tax exoneration on the seeds will be one of the various points to be debated at today’s cabinet meeting. The list comprises 17 types of seeds including mature potato, and other varieties destined for the production of starchy food.

This exceptional move aims at encouraging the import of these varieties of seeds in order to supply the domestic market and avoid disruptions and shortages that will impact the prices, knowing that food-processing market is subject to disturbances on account of seeds disruptions.

Several points have been included in the agenda of the cabinet’s meeting including a project presented by water resources minister in relation to the exploitation of rivers and another project concerning the creation of two new universities in Algiers.
