CAF : « Magic » Bougherra is Algerian player of the Year 2009
Algeria’s international and Glasgow Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra has been voted the Algeria player of the year 2009, according to the official website of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The « Ballon d’Or » was instituted by the Sports daily El Haddaf and Le Buteur.

The player had a great season with Glasgow Rangers, which won the Scottish title, and played an instrumental role in Algeria’s qualification for the 2010 African Cup of Nations and World Cup.

Also honoured was Abdelmalek Ziaya, top scorer of his team and key striker in the CAF Cup and UNAF football competition, who was voted the best upcoming home-based player.

Mohamed Messaoud, ASO Chief striker who scored 19 goals during the last season, took the best scorer award ; Entente Setif goalkeeper, Faouzi Chaouchi received the golden gloves award of the best goalkeeper while the revelation of the year trophy was awarded to two rising stars, Karim Matmour of Borussia M’gladbach and Rafik Halliche Nacional CD in Portugal.
