Security services recorded several ugly murders that mostly occurred among relatives during the holy month of Ramadan, and deadly traffic accidents that made people call in the social networks like “Facebook and Twitter” describe this week as “bloody” and launch campaigns to activate the death penalty against the perpetrators of the ugly killings, and ask for the punishment of the drivers who kill people in the streets every day.

In parallel with the campaign that was launched by Facebook activists to curb the crimes that disturb the sacredness of the month of fasting, and transformed it from the month of worship, mercy and forgiveness to a month of suffering, and shameful behavior, as the attorney who is accredited to the Supreme Court, Ibrahim Bahlouli, warned about the growing murders during the first days of Ramadan.

“The reasons that remain the same each year, concern the physical aspect, especially among the one family, and may be due to the lack of religious faith, and cases of anger and nervousness of the Algerians in Ramadan. The problem is the non-application of the death penalty, and retribution against criminals, which contributes to the increase of crime in society.”

“Arsenal of laws and regulations in the Algerian legal system, and even those that are prepared in parallel with the amendment of the Constitution, are not enough to curb this phenomenon and to deter criminals. Talk about the application of death penalty and its activation in this circumstance is very difficult, especially that Algeria lives between two fires, on the one hand it asked the civil society and human rights for activating the death penalty and retribution against the killers, and on the other hand, Algeria ratified the agreements, which criminalize the death penalty.

Human dignity and the preservation of freedom are not only for the murderer, but it is wondered about the right of the killed and his/her family, which is lost due to the absence of retribution.

For his part, Secretary General of the National Coordination for Imams, Djelloul Hadjima said that the retribution and the application of the death sentence against the criminals is the solution to curb these crimes, regretting the link of murder and killing with Ramadan, at a time it is the month of worship and erasing sins.

Majority of the crimes that occur between relatives are the cause of hatred and revenge, and fasting is only a secondary reason. Drugs and smoking and their shortages in the body during Ramadan are the key reason for the spread of numerous cases of murder and quarrels.

Psychiatric, social and health centres should provide the treatment for drug addicts, and the Friday sermons should raise awareness and prevention from committing crimes.
