Canada determined to continue investment in Algeria
French ambassador to Algeria, Xavier Driancourt, told Echorouk the French companies operating in Algeria moved since many years from the stage to intentions to actual investment in many sectors including banking, medication, architecture, public works, clean-up, and conducting the largest projects including Algiers airport, as well as production of cars tires and creation of medium and small enterprises.

“France is the first foreign investor in Algeria outside hydrocarbons”, he says.

The French ambassador also explains, during a tour to the central standing of Algiers international fair, where he visited Algerian institutions along with the former French PM at François Mitterrand’s era, Edit Cresson, that France did not limited investments on hydrocarbon, noting that French company “Michelin” has a unit in Algiers and it is the first Algeria exporter outside hydrocarbons.

“Algerian companies have competitive abilities and they are now able to sweep international markets thanks to their high quality products. I have a good knowledge of Algeria because I was a former Minister of Trade that’s why I’m able to imagine the future of Algeria after all those substantive stages made by its institutions which are now able to deal with the French ones and even European after France succeeded in persuading its European partners to invest in Algeria. Europeans are very convinced to cooperation with Algeria”, she says.

Canadian ambassador to Algeria, Patrick Parisot, said the Canadian companies received decision of the Algerian government to include amendments on the procedures for investment and transfer benefits of the companies abroad and terms of reinvestment profits as well as share of the foreign partners in these projects.

“Canadian government accepted these measures and the Canadian large participation in the exhibition in many sectors including modern technology, air transportation, construction engineering, environment, irrigation, energy, electricity and petrochemicals, confirm that the Canadian institutions are determined to continue investment in Algeria”, he says.
