The US's all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan, a team-mate of England star David Beckham at Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy, said the group in which USA team will play during the World Cup qualification is somewhat balanced and will allow the US team to maintain chances for the qualification to the second round, however, this does not mean that the job will be easy before England and two unknown teams that are Slovenia and Algeria particularly.

• Captain Landon Donovan told the BBC Friday that he will be happy to meet his English Galaxy team mate David Beckham in the first qualification to the World Cup and that it would be amazing.
• “It could have been worse,” Donovan said after watching the draw from New York. “Depending on where I play, playing against Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard in a midfield against those guys is going to be pretty fun. I can’t think of a better match-up personally.”
• “English team is well known as we know all its players. It is the first expected to pass to the second round. Our first match with England will determine whether the US team is able to qualify or not”.
• “Algeria and Slovenia are unknown for us. I think the Algerian team will create a hard competition for the second card qualification, although I do not know this team well, however, I saw some footage of the match against Egypt in Sudan and I realized that the Algerian team has many players that play a European football, that’s why the danger will come from it. We have to be careful, particularly since most of the Algerian players are active in the European leagues such as England, Germany and Italy. I think that staying long away from the Word Cup will make me enter this competition in order to leave my fingerprints. My team is eager to impose itself with the successful teams that are always a source of danger. We have no idea about Slovenia team and we must not underestimate it”.

• The Desert Foxes are managed by Rabah Saadane, who was in charge of the 1986 side who achieved a creditable draw with Northern Ireland.
• Saadane said: “It’s a group that gives England and the USA an advantage.
• “England is now a team that can go far in the World Cup because they’ve always had individual quality but now they have got rigor thanks to their Italian coach Capello.”
• Saadane insisted Algeria would not fear England striker Rooney, but respected him.
• “As for Rooney it’s not so much that we’re afraid of him – he’s just one of a heap of excellent players. England is as good nowadays defensively as in attack, they are very balanced,” he said.
