Replying to “Echourok’s ” questions as to whether “ Are the Muslim athletes including footballers allowed to eat during Ramadahn when they represent their respective nations abroad?”, the religious man replied that the officials in the Islamic countries have to program the training sessions and competitions after fast–break arguing that football was not a convincing argument for breaching the Islamic law.

But he went on saying that there is an exception to the rule when the players are competing abroad recalling one the verses in the Koran which talks about this isolated case. Even though he didn’t specified the period of time, the theologian has indicated that the question has found a large consensus in the Islamic world and everybody agreed upon it.

Cheikh Al Karadhaoui further added that the athletes have the choice to fast or not when they are on duty outside their country, there are those who would prefer to eat and there is no harm in it since the law allows it, whereas others stick on their choice to fast and get the God’s grace.
