“Clio 4” car manufactured in Algeria during 2017 and slashed imported vehicle quotas

The Minister of Industry and Mines, Mr. Abdeslam Bouchouareb, has hit out against those importers who do not care about the national interest, saying, “the oil era has gone though the government today is willing to extend its hand to all those who produce local goods and to those who duly export them abroad as part of the ongoing efforts to give a solid boost to the national economy in various sectors of activity”.

The minister also vowed to to reduce the quotas of imported vehicles that will enter the national market in 2017, and promised facilities for car manufacturers, while announcing the targeted self-national sufficiency in the very near future in the production of cement and phosphates.

In this respect, Mr Abdeslam Bouchouareb, inaugurated in Sétif (eastern Algeria) on Thursday the 2nd production line of the Cement Company of Ain El Kébira (SCAEK) of the Public Industrial Group of Cements of Algeria (GICA) .

According to the explanations given to the minister, the commissioning of the production line with a capacity of 2 million tons per year will allow Algeria to shift to the stage of self-sufficiency in terms of cement output.

The Minister of Industry and Mines pointed out that the putting into operation of this second production line confirms the challenge met by Algeria in the production of cement while announcing the entry into service next April of the cement plant of Adrar (southern Algeria) with 1, 5 million tons / year and in October of the same year the Chlef cement plant with 2 million tons / year.

The domestic production of cement will thus increase by 5.5 million tons / year, added who minister who firmly believes that this “milestone”  will pave the way for the export of the cement surplus in early 2018.

Mr. Bouchouareb will visit the meter unit and another unit in El Eulma as part of an Algerian-American partnership in the framework of his working visit of inspection to Setif province.

The minister will also inspect on the spot several units located in the Setif industrial zone and will meet with local economic operators who will give him explanations about the evolution of the new industrial zone and on the development of the trading activities zone of Ouled Saber municipality.
