Commission assigned to inquiry about Baccalureate results in Algeria
Algerian education minister Abdelatif Baba Ahmed announced that success rate in June 2013’s Baccalaureate exam reached 44.78 percent with 171,397 successful candidates.
The province of Tizi Ouzou (150 km east of Algiers) has the largest number of successful candidates with 60.95 percent while southern provinces have the lowest rate such as Adrar, Illizi and Khenchela with 28.05, 28.19 and 30.87 percent respectively.
“The number of successful candidates in the Baccalureate exam June 2013 reached 171,397 including 61,727 males and 109,670 females. Candidates who passed the exams with merit are estimated at 51,023. The number of successful independent candidates reached 23,242 and candidates in private schools 638,” said Ali Salhi, Chief of the National Exams Office in a press conference on Tuesday.
“The province of Tizi Ouzou ranked first with 60.95 percent followed by Tipaza with 59.50 percent,” he added.
He also said the ministry formed a commission in charge of inquiring about the reasons behind the low success rate in some provinces.
Chief of Cabinet at the ministry said a national conference will be held to analyze the exam official results.
He added that teachers involved in collective cheating were punished following reports from investigation commissions.
According to Salhi, 3,180 candidates were excluded from the Baccalaureate exams due to collective cheating in 6 provinces.
