Commission of Monitoring Elections threatened with dissolution

Members of the National Committee to Monitor Elections will meet on Sunday, to determine the fate of the Committee, threatened of dissolving itself if the Interior Ministry will insist on its refusal to deal positively with their demands, including the one paper voting system.

Sunday’s meeting will come at a time the relationships between the Commission and the Ministry of Interior noticed an unprecedented bad situation, characterized by the confirmation of the Minister Dahou Ould Kablia, that government refuses the demand of introducing the one paper in the voting, arguing that this action is opposing the organic law related to the system of election, ‭which organises the process‭. ‬

 H ead of ‭ ‬ the committee, ‭ ‬ Mohammed Sadiki told Echorouk‭: ‬ ‮ “‬ if the Interior Ministry insisted on refusing the one paper ‭ ‬   voting, the only person who can decide about it would be the president of the repulic ‭ ‬  ‮ “. ‬ ‭ ‬

 Sadiki warned of the consequences of refusing to  introduce the one paper system of voting, considered it as an encouragment to    fraud in the coming elections,  saying: “If things were imposed from higher authorities, we do not need these elections at all.”

Sadiki added that the Committee will meet on Sunday in a general assembly to decide on many issues, including continuing to freeze its activities or appealing them, based on what will be achieved on the ground, and pointed out that Friday’s meeting was to stop on the same shortcomings and obstacles related to the means and lists of members of national service and the voting paper ‭ ‬ and other things, ‭ ‬‭ ‬ which will be decided during the ‭ ‬ ‭ ‬ General Assembly‭.
