Communal workers' strike action widely followed in four corners of Algeria
Reports say that the communal workers' work stoppage in support for salary hikes and other social benefits has been widely followed at an estimated rate of up to 85% in the four corners of Algeria.
- The disgruntled communal workers resolutely went on with their strike action for the third day running despite heavy leverage and strong intimidation from several Mayors of several municipalities who called in, on several occasions, police forces to force them back to work.
- But the striking communal workers remained adamant in their staunch resolve to pursue their work stoppage in the hope of seeing their grievances and concerns addressed by the relevant authorities as early as possible.
- The chairman of the national council of communal workers told “Echorouk” that the council members would hold Friday a broad-based meeting in Algiers with the aim of making an overall assessment of the current strike movement at the national level and taking other firm actions, if need be, until the smooth fulfillment of the communal workers’ legitimate claims, as he put it.
