Communication Minister: “Algerian TV set to open offices in Washington, Paris and Cairo”

The Algerian communication Minister Mr Nacer Mehal, has announced that the Algerian TV will open offices in Washington, Paris and Cairo in the very near future.

• He also said that a new version of the information law would be ready by next June, to be submitted for broad-based discussion with the sector’s professionals and other parties concerned.

• Mr Mehal made it clear that the information code was not the responsibility of a Minister or a Government alone, but that of the whole sector.

• The Communication Minister indicated that the review of the information code was part of  the outstanding political reforms announced by the Head of State, Mr Abdellaziz Bouteflika, in his recent keynote speech to the Nation on April 16th.

• Mr Mehal notably highlighted the importance of the views and opinions of those seasoned journalists having experienced the 20 years since the promulgation in 1990 of the current information law.
