Constitutional Council to decide on Algeria poll results

Algeria’s Constitutional Council is expected to decide on Monday or Tuesday on the lawfulness of the presidential elections held on April 9.

The Council started receiving appeals on Sunday from the poll candidates against the election results. They issued claims of vote fraud committed in a number of voting centres.

Candidate Djahid Younsi said 1,600 voices in his favour were transferred Moussa Touati who received the third largest number of voices cast.

Leader of the Workers’ Party, Louisa Hanoun who followed the re-elected president Abdelaziz Bouteflika expressed dissatisfaction over the poll results.

The law stipulates that the Constitutional Council announces the official results of the presidential elections ten days after the announcement of the interior ministry.
