Corona, High Temperatures In The Holy Sites Raise Fears Among Pilgrims

Anxiety and Fears return among pilgrims following the registration of new cases of “Corona”, making many of them declare a state of emergency and start the search for the protective sleeves, to avoid infection with this dangerous and deadly respiratory disease, as the news about the increasing temperature during the day in the holy sites, increased the awareness among the pilgrims.

Pharmacies are noticing, these days, a growing demand by pilgrims who are heading for the holy sites to perform the fifth pillar of Islam, to buy some medicines, including for the treatment of chronic diseases, and are keen to take large amounts of them to use them throughout their stay in the pilgrimage period, and others that are linked to emergency situations such as diarrhée, nausea, headache, toothache, abdominal pain and colds… and other simple illnesses that are called by specialists as the travel diseases.

Majority of travel agencies are keen on the recommendation of the travelling pilgrims, to take with them these drugs in a handbag, so as it would be easy for them to reach them, and use them for the treatments for chronic diseases, but along with these medications, the visitor to the pharmacies and stores noticed a large number of demands on paramedical great demand for the purchase of masks in large numbers, in anticipation of recording cases of “Corona” that causes respiratory syndrome in the Middle East during the current pilgrimage season, and it is sold at 20 ZDZ a piece.

Some pharmacists attributed the large demands on the purchase of medicines to the emergence of new infections with Corona disease in Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, bringing the number of injuries to 1415 cases, in addition to the 32 cases without symptoms of whom 610 cases died since the outbreak of the disease in the Kingdom in June 2012. 

Saudi Arabia health services said the number of cases that made full recovery reached 835, while two cases are under treatment.

Return of the virus coincides with the report of the General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection that is represented by the Saudi Arabia Agency of Meteorology about the weather for the pilgrimage season in 1437 AH in Mecca and Medina, where it will be warm during the day and tends to be mild at night, to bring the state of anxiety amid crowds of pilgrims who had previously perform Umrah.
