Jurists think that retrieving the stolen money in the case of “Sonatrach 2”, which the Italian and American justice ordered for its seizure (Chakib Khalil and Farid Bedjaoui money), needs a seriousness in judicial lawsuit by Algerian justice, which is subject to judicial conventions between USA, Italy and Algeria in cases of corruption and the crime of money laundering.

Professor Khaled Borghoul, a certified lawyer at the supreme court, said that the Algerian justice is currently forced to wait for the results of the complaints that were filled by the Italian and American justice, against Farid Bedjaoui, and the former Energy and Mines Minister, Chakib Khalil, in the case of “Sonatrach 2″, which is related to briberies that were paid for the Italian Saipam, to move again in order to retrieve the stolen money”.

“Currently we cannot speak about handing over the money that is seized by Italy and USA, because they are subject to a foreign justice, and Algeria should launch complicated judicial procedures, under international conventions about handing over the accused and retrieving money like what it happened with Khalifa”.

“An international arrest warrant against Farid Bedjaoui by Interpol, should be included according to the Italian arrest warrant, and ordering the seizure and investigation in Chakib Khalil’s money by the U.S. Justice, and this comes to the lack of seriousness by the Algerian justice in following up Chakib Khalil, and the absence of the supreme court concerning the accusations against Chakib Khalil”.
