Cyber criminals use the “Blutooth” to blackmail their victims

The national gendarmerie units of Zeralda (western Algiers) have seized a batch of cell phones containing pornographic scenes and other videos showing terrorist acts in less than 2 months.

• The convicts were brought before the judge and put in prison while investigation is underway concerning two other cases.
• Most of the arrested individuals are young people including girls university students one of them wears a veil and lives in the southern part of Algeria. The girl’s cell phone contained pornographic scenes showing her in various positions, reliable sources revealed.
• The same sources added that cell phones controls are part of the security forces’ investigations in criminal cases along with regular identity controls conducted by these services…” In most cases individuals are startled when we ask their cell phones and show signs of worries confirming thus our first thoughts that they have pictures uploaded in their phones”, he noted.
• One of the youngsters was busted for burglary, but after investigating his cell phones it was discovered that he was downloading videos of a terrorist act perpetrated in the region of Tizi Ouzou and was charged for terrorism propaganda.
• Some young people are using the “Blutooth” technique to blackmail their victims after taking them in photos. They generally threaten them to post these photos on the internet or simply forward them to their families if the refuse to pay money in exchange.
