Dalil Boubakeur appointed as French Council of the Muslim Faith’s chairman
Algerians in charge of the Mosque of Paris Thursday reached a compromise with Morocco to end the dispute over the election of Chamseddine Hafed at the head of the French Council of the Muslim Faith to succeed Moroccan Mohamed Moussaoui.
“The elections will be on time on Sunday to end the dispute between Maghrebin and Turkish brothers about the position of Secretary General of the session,” the current rector of the Paris Grand Mosque, Dalil Boubakeur told Echorouk on the phone on Friday.
“There was misunderstanding but things have been settled. We agreed on having three Algerians, three Moroccans and three Turkish in the office. They are: the chairman, three deputy chairmen, a secretary general, a finance secretary and his assistant. Other eight members include Algerian Slimane Nadour,” he added.
This comes as Chamseddine Hafed remained the chairman’s deputy and Boubaker is the Council’s chairman. Third Algerian was appointed as finance secretary.
Earlier, Morocco was against the appointment of Chamseddine Hafed as the Council’s chairman as he was Polisario Front’s lawyer.
“Chamseddine did not want to be the chairman in order to avoid disputes to reserves about him,” said Boubakeur.
