  • An official told Echorouk that work is carried out in coordination with researcher professors at the University of Skikda (east of Algiers) to prepare a data base. It will identify victims’ bodies especially in the 2003’s Algeria earthquake and the 2001’s Algiers floods by corroborating them with missing people’s descriptions.
  • The data bank is also meant to identify heads of crime and terror attack victims including terrorists themselves. An approximate picture of the skull can help to identify the person, said the same source.
  • A data bank on car painting remnants is also expected to be established in coordination with mechanics teachers at Boumerdes University (50 km east of Algiers). It aims at identifying suspects involved in traffic accidents who are on the run.
  • The National Gendarmerie command is based now on scientific evidences to face crime in all its forms including traffic accidents. Drivers can be pleaded guilty or not in deadly accidents through glass remnants, speed and lights.
  • A data base on finger prints of arrested suspects and illegal migrants is currently available with the National Gendarmerie command in addition to a data bank on gun types carried by armed civilians.
  • The command have recently been working on how to modernise intervention means via scientific ways taking in consideration respect of arrested suspects’ rights and condemning them by scientific evidences.
  • In this regard, human rights courses have been introduced in training schools at the National Gendarmerie command.
