David Beckham told he must play in Europe to feature in World Cup 2010

David Beckham has been warned by Fabio Capello that he will not feature in next year's World Cup unless he returns to Europe for the second half of next season .

• The 34-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder won back his England place after adhering to Capello’s demands and negotiating a loan stint with AC Milan during Major League Soccer’s off-season earlier this year, and according to the Italian coach, the same must happen again.
• “Beckham knows well that if he doesn’t return to a big European championship in December he’ll have no chance for the World Cup,” Capello is quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
• Milan have made no secret of their desire to renew a similar deal, but reports that Tottenham and Chelsea are interested could see Beckham make a return to the Premier League.
• Capello’s comments will not be welcomed by LA Galaxy fans who, in recent weeks, have called into question Beckham’s commitment to the club.
• His time in Italy was originally meant to last just six weeks but soon developed into a seven-month stay which caused the former England captain to miss the MLS season kick-off.
• Since making his return to America, Beckham has been on the receiving end of booing crowds, clashes with individual fans as well as incurring a less than complimentary assessment from Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan who branded him a bad captain and portrayed him as stingy.
• The pair have since put their differences aside, and over the weekend, Donovan publicly praised Beckham for his professionalism and contributions to the club’s success since he returned from Italy.
• “David’s been great since he’s been back, in every way,” Donovan said. “He’s added something off the field to the group and his qualities on the field make us a lot better.
• “Regarding the book, no one wants to hear those kind of things about them, especially like that. David’s taken it like a man and has moved on from it.”
