The National Fund of the French Pension Scheme (CNAV) in charge of allocating retirement pensions for the benefit of those Algerians who had worked in France, has sent to the relevant Algerian authorities a list of names of Algerian retirees for an updating of the files.

For this purpose, the Algerian authorities are required to verify the accuracy of the information provided by these retirees in a bid to detect any fraud in the supplying of life certificates by the pensioners especially those aged over 75 years.

According to sources from the Embassy of France in Algeria, the CNAV’s services have requested the Algerian authorities to check by appropriate means if the people on the list are still alive, especially after detecting recently over 500 cases of proven fraud, including dead people who have been receiving  their retirement pensions in Euros for many years now.

Indeed, preliminary results of surveys conducted by the Consulates of France in Algiers, Oran and Annaba disclosed these cases of fraud whereby children and even grandchildren still receive the  pension of the father, who, as soon as he retired in Algeria, he became so to speak: “immortal.”

According to the same sources, the efforts currently undertaken by the French authorities in the control of beneficiary lists are meant to expose and to take legal action against fraudsters and are in no way designed to prompt the review of the Algerian-French Agreement of 1980 pertaining to the safeguarding of the social rights of Algerians who worked in France.
