Dead and injured in the celebrations after the Algerian squad win over Rwanda

The celebrations that took place in various parts of the country following the Algerian squad’s win over the Rwandan side last Sunday were blamed for the killing of 15 people, nine in the provinces of Algiers, Oran, Tiaret, Saida and Ain Defla, and 168 were injured in various corners of the country.

  • Thousands took to the streets in Oran to express their joy till very late at night regardless of their age and sex, in a move to show their total their total support to the head coach Rabah Saadane.

  • Unfortunately, this extravaganza has brought its part of tragedies as three people died in car accidents while they were celebrating in the streets. A 26 year old man crashed his car against a truck on highway 20 leading to Ain Turk ( Western Algeria).

  • Another one 21, passed away on the same highway when his car slid, according to sources. The third person succumbed to his injuries after being slammed by a car downtown Oran.

  • In the province of Tiaret (western Algeria) a 50 year old man died of a heart attack soon after the first goal scored by the Rwandan side. The man, who was watching the match in  a café, fainted while he was trying to leave the café. He died soon few moments after his admission to hospital.

  • 15 other injuries were registered in the same province; most of them were suffering from various wounds in their arms legs and heads, among them 5 were slammed by cars while another one was hit by powder shot.

  • Skirmishes were registered in some parts of the city when drunken youngsters blocked the road and threatened the passers-by. Various gangs were involved in street fighting in Emir Abdelkader square, spreading panic among the population.
