Death penalty for the most dangerous terrorist in eastern Algeria

After deliberations, the most dangerous terrorist in Annaba east of Algeria was sentenced to death Sunday following his participation in a number of terrorist attacks mainly the murder of 13 gendarmes and municipal guards.

• The verdict was given Sunday by the criminal court to the Judicial Council in Annaba concerning the so-called /Ch. Dj. M. He was guilty to terrorism charges including his links to an armed group spreading terror among the population, premeditated murders and unlawful possession of firearms.

• He was arrested on July 2005, caught red-handed of possession of firearm Beretta type and ammunitions. He has also participated in organizing the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) since 1995 and he was involved in the burning of a farm and many other murders.

• In 1999, he was wounded in his right leg in an ambush set up by the gendarmes. In 2003, he participated in the murder of four elements of self-defence and the municipal guard. The guilty denied all the charges against him, saying he was not involved in any terrorist attack.  He acknowledged his involvement within the armed terrorist group but the verdict was undisputed.
