Doctors injured and arrested while protesting near President Office

The sit-in of resident doctors in front of President Office in El Mouradia suburb in Algiers, on Wednesday, turned into violent clashes with law and order forces that used force and executed arrests, as several injuries and loss of consciousness cases were reported among the protesters.

The protester doctors managed to break the police cordon and marched from El Mouradia down to “1st May Square,” chanting anti Minister of Health slogans and claiming dignity and respect from authorities.
The marchers threatened to resign collectively and seek visas to leave definitively the country, and start career in Europe.
The marchers met in “1St May Square” in Algiers at about 2 pm, where they chanted the national hymn and held a sit-in. Some marchers could not join their colleagues, for they were banned by police.
Reporters and photographers who were covering the march had been subject to police harassments, as many of them were beaten and deprived from their cameras.
Resident doctors require authorities to lift the compulsory 2 to 5 year civil service period in state run hospitals before being acquired their degree. They also claim to have their organic status law, and increase their allowances, in addition to some other claims.
