A large debate was raised in the US as republican candidate Donald Trump swept to primary victories. Many expressed fears over his extremist discourse towards foreigners. This made a flashback of historical personalities who caused wars and genocides when they were in power.

Trump’s right-wing extremist inciting discourse sparked a hostile atmosphere to foreigners and immigrants in general as well as Muslims in particular.

US electoral campaigns have always been marked by a popular discourse. Yet, Trump’s statements were unprecedented as they were sharp and targeted foreigners and Muslims.

Echorouk sheds light on the most prominent right-wing personalities in Europe such as Hitler, Mussolini, Le Pen and Trump. Catastrophic repercussions on their nations and the world were caused after they had reached power.

Donald Trump

US presidential elections possible candidate Donald John Trump was born on June 14th in 1946. He is a businessman and a billionaire. He is the chairman of the US-based Trump Real-Estate Organization. He runs many projects and companies in the world.

As he entered the presidential race, he started making provoking statements raising disgust among Americans including conservative partisans. They considered Trump’s visions as “fascist” and do not serve republicans’ future.

In one of his statements, Trump called for not allowing Muslims to enter the US for “safety reasons.”

He also said he is for making a special date base for Muslims. He has become an enemy for Mexicans as they criticized this country’s immigrants in the US. He described them as “criminals.”

He published a book where he described his nation as “ill” and defended his wish to build a wall along Mexican borders.

Opponents and calls for apology

Trump found himself in a battle with US opposition partisans who described him as “racist.” Many American celebrities, simple citizens and foreign immigrants showed anger about his position.

A large number of civil society organizations representing Muslims in the US called on the republican candidate to apologize for his offending statements. This comes as he said “Islam hates us.”

In Chicago, Trump cancelled a rally in the last minute on Friday to avoid serious injuries as riots had been triggered between his partisans and opponents. His attackers described him as a “shame.”

Oussama Jammal, the Secretary General of the US Council of Muslim Organizations said people like Trump cause division in the American society while there is a need for unity more than ever.

He believes that Trump has no idea about Islam. He called on American voters to show their real values to Trump.

Jean Marie Le Pen

French politician Jean Marie Le Pen, 87, is the historical leader of right-wing parties in France. He is the founder of the National Front. He was elected as a deputy at French Parliament starting from 1956.

In 2002, he made a big surprise as he reached the second round of the presidential elections. He is the father of Marine Le Pen, the current leader of the National Front.

He is known for his provoking, racist and anti-Semitic statements. He called for kicking out immigrants including Muslims.

Earlier last month, he endorsed Trump and wrote on Twitter: “If I was American, I would have voted for Donald Trump. May God bless him.”

Benito Mussolini

Benito Mussolini (July 1883-April 1945) held the position of Italy’s President, its Prime Minister, foreign and interior minister. He is one of the fascist movement founders in Italy.

He established the so-called fighting units which became the core of his facisit party. He reached power after a march he had led from Milano in the north until the capital Roma.

He called for a meeting and created a political party. Yet, it was turned into gangs.

In Summer 1922, transport workers went on strike and the government failed in dealing with the situation. Yet, Mussolini’s partisans drove the buses and trains ending the strike.

People were asking for a strong leader like Mussolini. He said it was time to be in power. In October, he led a large march to Roma where he said to his followers he would get power.

Mussolini waged the World War II with Nazi Germany and Japan. It was a heavy war on Italy. The Italian army could not occupy Greece three times until they got helped by Nazi forces. In Libya, they were defeated by British. Because of that, the German intervened to maintain Italy’s presence in North Africa. The Italian army asked German officers and advisors for help.

By 1942, Italy’s army was defeated and soldiers were hungry. People were angry and said no to war. They realized that Mussolini lied on them as their country was occupied by British and American armies. He became people’s first enemy. The King ordered to arrest him.

Late in April in 1945, Mussolini tried to flee to the north but he was arrested and executed by the Italian resistance movement.

He was one of the old honoured fighters for participating in the World War I by the side of Germany. He joined the Nazi Party in 1920 and became its leader in 1921.

After he was jailed following a failed coup attempt in 1923, he could get popular support. He preached for nationalism and was against communism.

In 1933, he was appointed as an advisor. He established pillars for a system ruled by a totalitarian dictator and fascist ideology.

As Germany was ruled by the Nazi Party, media reported propagandas about minorities including gitans and Jews. There were calls for their extermination. The Nazi regime was accused of being behind the Holocaust.

In 1945, Germany was invaded and the Berlin Wall collapsed. In the last days of the 1945 war, Hitler married his lover Eva Braun after a long love story. Two days later, they killed themselves.
