Drug smugglers work in coordination with the terrorist groups

Sources close to the investigation in the latter case by the tenth group of the border guards in Bechar, which resulted in the seizure of three tons of drugs in Hassi Khebbi, south of Algeria, told Echrouk that the smuggler who was arrested and said that he is from Bordj Badji Mokhtar in Adrar, south of Algeria, is originated from Mali and was active in an international network of smuggling drugsand that his mission was transfer drugs because he knows the smuggling routes and has a big experience as a guide.  

• He admitted in the investigation that the networks of smuggling drugs are operating in coordination with terrorist groups that are active in the Sahel region and working under their “auspices” through ensuring the security of the convoys of “the bandits” in the wide desert paying significant amounts of money to facilitate the smugglers’ passing.

• “All the networks of smuggling drugs, weapons and fuel in the southern regions, particularly those in connection with the terrorist groups, such as the Masked battalion under Mokhtar Belmokhtar known as Al Aouar, who is leader of the ninth region of the SGPC who pulled out after Droudkel’s leadership and settled in the region of Al Khalil, north of Mali with Malian and Mauritanian fellows, but he stayed a sponsor of the smuggling networks because he has good knowledge of the region, that’s why this Malian smuggler may be one of his fellows who are charged with smuggling,” he added.

• Previously, the National Gendarmerie seized more than 70.000 dinars which were owned by a drug smuggler inside his “Station” car.

• This case reveals again the relationship between the terrorist groups and the drug traffickers which constitute a financing source of the terrorist groups.
