“Echorouk” pays a courtesy visit to Meghni's parents in Ouled Hadadj
Mourad Meghni

The recent feast of Aid Al Adha was an opportunity for Echorouk's reporters to pay a courtesy visit to the parents of the Algerian international football player Mourad Meghni in the locality of Ouled Hadadj in suburban Algiers.

  • Our reporters seized the opportunity of the presence in Algeria of Mourad Meghni’s parents on the occasion of the Aid feast to know more about the talented Algerian midfielder who shone on the pitch with the Fennecs during the qualifiers for the 2010 world cup competition in South Africa.
  •
  • Mourad Meghni’s father, Ammi Ali, who welcomed us heartily, told us that he was very proud that his son was part of the Algerian national football line-up.
  •
  • He expressed his profound joy to see the Algeria squad qualified for the 2010 world cup finals adding that his son was utterly happy when he was called up to join the national football team.
  •
  • Ammi Ali said that his son Mourad had been attracted by football at a very early age and he used to take him to the stadiums very often notably to encourage his older brother Said who preceded him on the football pitches.
  •
  • Mourad, he said, joined at an early age several football training schools including that of Tursi and FC Nantes in France where he made impressive and swift progress as a budding player.
  •
  • At the age of 17, Mourad Meghni won with flying colours the World cup trophy with the U 17 France football squad, he recalled proudly.
  •
  • Meghni played at that time with the Italian club of Bologna and now, as everybody knows, he plays with the prestigious team of Lazio of Rome in the Italian first-division championship.
  •
  • Ammi Ali is besides very proud that his son Mourad Meghni is compared by a lot of people with the great Zinedine Zidane by calling him the small “Zizou”.
  •
  • During our courtesy visit, we also met on the spot with Mourad Meghni’s mother, Anna, who has a Portuguese nationality and who loves profoundly Algeria and the Algerians.
  •
  • She told us that she had always made it a duty together with her husband to come to Algeria every year to get together with all the family members and friends in the family home of Ouled Hadadj notably during the religious feasts.
  •
  • Anna said she was extremely happy at Algeria’s qualification for the 2010 world cup finals with her son Mourad being part of this astounding achievement alongside his team-mates and all the technical staff.
  •
  • She added that her son Mourad Meghni had a deep love for Algeria as he had learnt by heart the Algerian national anthem at a very early age.
  •
  • Her son, she underlined had always been very calm and reserved but on the pitch he pulls out all the stops in all fair-play and sportsmanship.
  •
  • Anna finally indicated that her cherished son speaks 5 foreign languages and was fully determined, with the help of all his team-mates, to defend the Algerian colours to the hilt during the upcoming Africa cup of Nations in Angola and the World cup finals in South Africa.
