“Echorouk publishes details of new provincial administrative apportionment”

The Ministry of the Interior and local assemblies has just put the final touches to the outstanding file pertaining to the new provincial administrative apportionment in the light of an exhaustive report submitted to the government council last week by the Interior Minister Nourredine Yazid Zerhouni.

• Well informed sources told Echorouk Al Yaoumi that the newly-devised administrative apportionment map includes 110 dairas or constituencies across 45 provinces or wilayas of the country. 95 of them were promoted to sub governorships.
• 15 constituencies were promoted to the rank of sub-governorships in the big cities of Oran and Constantine.
• Oran and Constantine will be henceforth subjected to the same administrative management as the capital Algiers whose administrative configuration remains unchanged for the time being.
• According to the same sources, the Southern regions of the country have received the biggest share of the status of sub-governorships in order to pull them out of their lingering isolation.
• The promotion of these dairas or constituencies to sub-governorships was carried out on the basis of the demographic, security and remoteness criteria.
• The objective sought through this new system of management is to bring the administration closer to the citizen and to spur, by the same token, multidimensional development in all the provinces and regions of the country.
• This new administrative apportionment will require a financial package estimated at 600 billion dinars, according to the same sources.
