The first allegations that leaked soon after the killing of the Algerian National Security Director General, Ali Tounsi saying that the assassin was about to commit suicide, have been denied by the interior ministry’s sources, declaring to Echourok that the murderer has perpetrated his act unnoticed because Ali Tounsi’s office was acoustically insulated.

  •
  • The same sources added that the man has insisted to meet Ali Tounsi few minutes before an important other meeting with high-up officers. The assassin has asked the late director general to get clarifications over the outcome of investigations released on print media over illegal contracts involving him, but the director general has replied , according to the same sources, that if he had evidences that claim his innocence, he should forward them or wait for the justice’s verdict. At this time, Oualtache Choueib shot Ali Tounsi to dearth with two bullets on the head.
  •
  • It should be noted that, Oualtache Chouieb, 64, a retired military officer has known through a newspaper’s article that he was suspended by the late Director General from his post as the head of the Police’s Copters Unit on account of his involvement in case of embezzlement.
  •
  • In the wake of this article, he demanded to meet Ali Tounsi quite sure that he was behind the leak because he was the initiator of the investigation. But Ali Tounsi acceded to his will considering him as one of his close collaborators, that’s why he entered into his office with his arm on.
  •
  • Both men had a strong argument over evidences forwarded by Ali Tounsi showing the assassin’s involvement a malpractice case concerning the acquisition of computer equipment. Failing to prove his innocence, Oualtache turned to, what the interior ministry’s communiqué has qualified as a state of madness, and shot him dead.
  •
  • The assassin has soon got out from the office and asked the secretary, wit the gun on his hand, to summon the head of the judicial police, the inspector general and the administration manager with the aim to carry out the same act. But he was surprised by the arrival of the police chief of the town of Algiers, Abderrabou who shot him on the shoulder and the left leg, while this one was slightly injured on the forehead.
  •
  • Sources revealed that Oualtache was aiming at eliminating all the parties he thought were involved in his charge but the sudden coming of Algiers’s police chief aborted the plot.
  •
  • But another version of facts reveals that the assassin was shot by one of the director General’s bodyguards soon after the crime, as he rushed in after hearing the shots and exchanged fire with him. He was injured and transferred to hospital.
