Echourok honors the 2009 top personalities in a giant ceremony

Amid joyful and colorful atmosphere, Echourok has the day before yesterday honored the most influential personalities of the year at Hilton hotel here in Algiers.

• Tassili” conference room was filled high level personalities from the political, economic, media and sports sectors who accepted the invitation and attended the ceremony. Among them, the Algerian businessman Mehri, the Algerian ambassador to Cairo, Hadjar, the Sudanese and the Western Sahara ambassadors to Algiers.

• Were present at the ceremony also literary and sports figures like the Algerian football legend Rabah Madjer, the writer and poetess Ahlam Moustaghanemi as well as entertainers and other artists.

• In his inaugural speech, Echourok’s Director General Ali Fodhil praised the Algerian people’s historic stand by their national squad, boasting his newspaper’s defiance to the Egyptian satellite channels during the ferocious and ignoble campaign against Algeria.

• Echourok has honored two figures that took part to the historic achievement in Khartum, Sudan, namely: the Algerian ambassador to Cairo Abdelkader Hadjar and the president of the Algerian Football Federation Mohammed Raouraoua. The Algerian moviemaker Ahmed Rachedi was among the nominees in addition to the Communication and Cultural Office’s Director Lakhdar Ben Tourki.

• As part of the Algerian support to the Western Sahara cause, Echourok seized this opportunity to honor, in absentia, the militant Aminatou Haider. The symbol who challenged the atrocities of the Moroccan regime, couldn’t take part to the ceremony on account of her frail health condition, has sent a letter in which she expressed her gratitude to the Algerian people and authorities or the support during her ordeal.

• For his part, Ali Fodhil extended his gratitude to the newspaper’s staff whose efforts all over the year 2009 were crowned by setting the record of 2 million copies the day of the match that opposed Algeria to Egypt, than stabilized at a level of 1.2 million copies a day onwards. This achievement has crowned “Echourok” as the leader in the Arab World.
