Egypt did not ensure Algerian players safety, says Saifi

Algeria’s Rafik Saifi who was injured by stonethrowing fans in Egypt said the attack was planned as security forces did not react.

• “We did not expect that. As if we came to lead a war and not to play football,” Saifi told Echorouk.

• “After we went to the bus to reach the hotel, we saw crowds of people shouting in the airport. As we were close to the hotel, I felt something would happen and I switched on my mobile phone. I asked the other players. Then, stones started felling on us.”

• Saifi also said he is determined to win the match on November 14. “We will turn their stones into goals.”

• “The Algerian people are peaceful and reject humiliation.”
