Egypt may boycott conference in Algeria
Minister of small and middle-sized enterprises Mustapha Ben Bada
Egypt is the only country which has not confirmed whether it will attend the fifth edition of the Arab conference on small and medium-sized companies or not. The meeting is due to be held in Algeria on March 14 and 15.
- The conference is the first Arab meeting Algeria is organising after the Egyptian-Algerian crisis.
- Algeria did not boycott any Arab event held in Egypt. Its ambassador in Cairo had said “coldness” between the two countries would not push Algeria to ban its roles neither would it push to give up its position in the Arab League.
- This boycott comes after Algerian energy minister Chakib Khelil, the republic president’s consultant Mohamed Rezag Bara and housing minister met in a number of events in Egypt.
- The Arab conference is meant to enhance small and medium-sized industries capacity of innovation and creativity. Algeria plans to create 200,000 small and medium-sized companies in the next five months. A set of measures were taken in this regard.
