Egypt steps up security measures shortly before match against Algeria

Egyptian security forces Saturday started implementing a plan to ensure safety in the stadium and its surrounding areas, Echorouk has learnt.

• Earlier on Thursday, stonethrowing fans attacked a bus carrying the Algerian team to their hotel in Egypt. Four players were injured.

• 50 police cars and traffic jam
•  
• There was an unprecedented traffic jam in the roads leading to Cairo stadium. The Egyptian army intervened to surround the area and appease the traffic.

• Security sources say the number of policemen was increased to keep watch on the Algerian fans.

• Egyptian security forces searched the Algerian fans at the stadium and even in the benches.

• They had received instructions to search any Algerian person before entering the stadium to seize possible smoke grenades.

• The police searched the fans many times following Egyptian media reports about fireworks brought by them to be thrown on the pitch.
