Egyptian Doctor Alaâ Sadek to Echorouk: “Algeria deserved its qualification for 2010 World Cup”
Alaâ Sadek

Having to his credit 37 years of experience in the news media world, Egyptian Doctor Alaâ Sadek is very outspoken and frank. He does not waver in saying the truth about his compatriots and firmly denouncing the frenzied Egyptian media campaign of smear and disparagement against Algeria touched off by Algeria's well-deserved qualification for the 2010 World cup tournament in South Africa. Doctor Alaâ Sadek who is intent on quitting the sports news scene in early 2011 has granted an exclusive interview to Echorouk's correspondent based in the Qatari capital Doha.

  • Echorouk : Have you really decided to quit the news media scene?
  • Alaâ Sadek : Yes, I have decided to hand in my notice in early 2011. I started my journalistic career 37 years ago but now I am intent on leaving the news media world in about 7 months from now because I don’t bear untoward pressure … I like to be free and independent… During my upcoming retirement period, I’ll devote my spare time to reading and writing books.
  • Echorouk : What is your opinion about the current level of the Egyptian sports news media?
  • Alaâ Sadek : I should say that the Egyptian sports news media have gone downhill on account of the presence within their fold of “fools and ignorants”.
  • Echorouk : These assertions can bring you problems in Egypt, are you aware of that?
  • Alaâ Sadek : I am fully aware of what I say. I believe that the plain truth is above every thing. It can’t be hidden under all circumstances.
  • Echorouk : Do you think that you made a mistake, as some Egyptians say, when you invited in your TV sports talk show the chairman of the Algerian football federation Mohamed Raouraoua after the 2 – nil return victory by Algeria over Zambia in the World cup qualifiers?
  • Alaâ Sadek : In fact, I invited on my sports program Mohamed Raouraoua  well before the Egyptian-Algeria match of Cairo. I don’t care about the vehement criticisms leveled against me by certain ill-advised Egyptian quarters whose only aim is to sow discord and  to add fuel to the fire.
  • I should say that Algerian FAF chairman Mohamed Raouraoua is a very decent, clever and respectful personality. He was up to the mark on all accounts during the whole talk show and I don’t regret of having invited him to my TV program.
  • Echorouk : What do you think of the lashing and bitter Egyptian criticisms against Mr. Mohamed Raouraoua?
  • Alaâ Sadek : I should dub them as “baseless, vile and naughty” …
  • Echorouk : Well, now in view of their whole qualifying matches, did the desert warriors of Algeria “steal” the qualifying ticket for the 2010 world cup tournament as lamely clamoured by certain spiteful Egyptians?
  • Alaâ Sadek : I don’t share this view. To say that the Greens of Algeria “stole” their world cup qualification is a baseless assertion coming from spiteful bad losers.
  • I think that the Algeria players had succeeded in winning the decisive play-off match versus Egypt in Khartoum in all sportsmanship and fair- play on the pitch during all the 90 minutes of play.
  • So, I should rightfully say that the Algerians fully deserved their qualification for the South African World cup tournament.
