Ennahda leader Ghannouchi carried out a lightning visit to Algeria

The President of the Tunisian party “Ennahda”, Rached Ghannouchi paid a lightning visit to Algeria last week during which he met with a number of senior officials of the country.

The London newspaper “Al Arab” – citing political sources, said Rached Ghannouchi travelled last week to Algeria aboard a special flight.

Sources close to the party’s consultative council (Majlis Echoura) of Ennahda revealed that Ghannouchi headed just upon his arrival at the Houari Boumediene international airport of Algiers to the El Mouradia Palace where he held talks with advisers to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

No details emerged about the content the meeting, although some knowledgeable sources have indicated that the political crisis in Tunisia following the Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi’s initiative related to the formation of a government of national union was largely discussed.

According to the same sources, this short trip to Algeria by the Tunisian Ennahda leader after that carried out to Paris is part of Ghannouchi’s consultative visits after the failure of the second round of consultations on the initiative of forming a national unity government in Tunisia.
